Slow Food Cincinnati works to promote an open food community by improving access, facilitating dialogue, and inspiring local food culture. We foster an environment that works to develop, create, and savor our food in a way that is educational, respectful, and delightful.

Our Approach

We don’t want fast food. We want slow food!

In 1986, a crowd chanted this very message in Rome, Italy to protest the addition of a fast-food restaurant by the historic Spanish Steps. The activists gave out dishes of pasta to the people and from there, the Slow Food movement began.

On a local scale, Slow Food Cincinnati works to uplift small businesses that align with the Slow Food ideals. The Snail of Approval Award is one way that we recognize farms, restaurants, food artisans, and organizations that are doing hard work to cultivate a better food community in Cincinnati.
