Bill and Beth Dean’s family farm in Georgetown, Ohio, wins a Snail of Approval 2014, for their commitment to old fashioned farm values, do-it-yourself ingenuity, and most especially, their marvelous Red Wattle Pigs. The Red Wattle is a distinctly American breed of hog, considered lost until a small herd was found and saved in Texas. Even as late as 1999, there were only 42 breeding animals left. Farmers like the Deans have played a critical role in saving this excellent pig. The Red Wattle is a member of the Ark of Taste. We at Slow Food Cincinnati promote the Dean’s terrific pork at many of our events and are thrilled to see this Ark of Taste member in such good hands.Dean Family Farm 10924 Smokey Row Rd.
